Sydney FC Westfield W-League Head Coach Dan Barrett believes the Sky Blues are one of the benchmark teams in the league ahead of their clash against the Brisbane Roar at Lambert Park on Saturday 1st November (kick of 5pm).
Barrett believes his squad will face a stern test against the Roar however he’s confident of drawing on previous experiences against the Queenslanders to prevail with only five rounds of the league remaining.
“Everyone wants to beat us,” he said.
“Everyone steps it up a gear when we play them. Wanderers proved this and we take this as a lesson learnt that we must be on our game always.
“Games against Brisbane are generally always close,” he continued.
“The competitive nature of both playing groups always makes this game an arm wrestle.
“We will be looking to our brand of football to be the difference. Games like these come down to making your chances count and that’s what we will be aiming to do.
“In my time as assistant coach with Alen [Stajcic] we had many important clashes versus the Roar and obviously I was involved in the preparation for those matches so my involvement last time around helps a lot.”
After returning to Sydney FC in round five of the Westfield W-League 2014 season, Barrett said he’s enjoying being back as he targets a top four finish with the Sky Blues currently sitting in second place.
“I am really enjoying it [being back at Sydney FC],” he said.
“It’s a fantastic playing group made up of not only highly talented players but they are good people also.
“It’s great to be back involved with the club after four years and I did really miss my time away. I missed everyone from front office staff to coaches and players so it’s really nice to be back.
“I really want to help them reach their goals this season,” he continued.
“After last weekend’s round of results it just proves how close this year the competition is. Top four spots cannot be taken for granted and we know we have to be at our best to be there.”
