Sydney FC Champions Caitlin Foord and Chloe Logarzo have hailed the Westfield Matildas’ “never say die” attitude following their thrilling FIFA Women’s World Cup victory over Brazil on Friday morning.
The Sky Blue duo were instrumental in the squad’s success over the South American powerhouse, both finding the back of the net, with Logarzo claiming Player of the Match honours with her assist for Foord’s strike in the process.
“I’m super happy and to have that winning feeling again is very nice,” Foord said post-match.
“It’s always nice scoring a goal, that feeling never changes, but to get one just before the half I felt like really helped shift the momentum and the belief that we’re back in this game.
“We felt on top the whole game to get that just helped going in at half time.
“We knew what was on the line for us today, there was nothing in our mind that we were going to lose,” she continued.
“Even though we went down 2-0 we didn’t think we were ever going to lose. To come back and win shows that we’re a team that’s never going to give up.”
Cruelly missing the 2015 World Cup, Logarzo said the victory over Brazil was an inspired dream come true for the 24-year old.
“I think I’m on cloud nine I don’t think it’s sunk in yet,” Logarzo said.
“It’s definitely a dream come true. That win was definitely for our team, the amount of emotion and pride that was put on that park was amazing.
“I was in a pub in Greece watching the girls [last world cup],” she continued.
“It gave me the motivation to see the girls have that never say die mentality back then. For us to have it here, 2-0 down and be able to come back and win the game definitely shows the character of our team.”
Sydney FC’s Westfield W-League Champions will next be in action for the Westfield Matildas against Jamaica in their final Group C clash on Wednesday morning Australian time, kick off 5am AEST.
