Sky Blue Called Up For U17 Asian Cup Squad

Sydney FC young gun Indiana Dos Santos will travel to Indonesia after the Finals Series, following her selection in the U17 Junior Matildas for the Women’s U17 Asian Cup in May.

National duties isn’t uncommon for the 16 year-old having been selected to represent the Young Matildas U20 squad in the 2024 AFC Women’s Asian Cup back in March this year. As one of the younger players in the squad, Dos Santos travelled to Uzbekistan alongside five other Sydney FC team members, including sister Jynaya Dos Santos.

Now acting as one of the more experienced squad members for the U17 campaign, Dos Santos will be setting her sights on qualifying for the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic which will take place in October this year.

“We’re excited about the composition of the final squad. We’ve got more depth than ever across this cohort and we’re really happy with the team representing the nation at this prestigious tournament. It’s a squad that is adaptable and flexible, can play a variety of different systems with some strong, robust defenders and real ‘x-factor’ players; creative and dangerous in that middle and final third.”

CommBank Junior Matildas Head Coach Rae Dower on the team selection for the U17 Womens Asian Cup.

The squad begins their Group B campaign against China PR on Tuesday, 7 May 2024 at Bali United Training Center (6.00pm AEST).

They will then take on defending champions Japan on Friday, 10 May 2024 at Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium (9.00pm AEST).

The Junior Matildas will complete their group stage fixtures back at Bali United Training Center against Thailand on Monday, 13 May 2024 (6.00pm AEST).

If successful, the top two squads from each group will advance to the knockout phase.

The top three nations from the competition qualify as the AFC’s representatives at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup later this year.

The team and their staff will meet in Cairns on the 24th of April to begin preparations before travelling to Bali five days later.

Dos Santos will only join the squad after completing her duties for Sydney FC and their Finals appearance for the 2023/2024 Liberty A-League season, whether that be after the second round of semi finals in late April or a Grand Final in early May.

Indiana Dos Santos of Sydney FC takes possession of the ball against Melbourne City.

Good luck Indy!
