It-ll be a special moment for young forward Mitch Mallia when he walks out for Saturday-s home friendly against Adelaide United at Marconi Stadium.

The pacey striker grew up in the area and played for the Marconi Stallions as a kid, so the match is very much a home game for Mallia.

“I-m very much looking forward to getting back to my home club, I was there for around 6 years. It will be good to get back, but it-ll be even better being in a Sydney FC jersey this time,” Mallia said.

The opposition also holds significance to the striker, as it was against Adelaide United that Mallia netted his maiden goal for the club.

“I like to score in every game but I-ve scored against Adelaide before so hopefully I can do it again,” Mallia recalled.

Coach Ian Crook is hoping to fill the team with a mix of A-League and Youth League players including Tom Slater, son of former Socceroo Robbie Slater.

Crook will also use players from the AIS team, to help cover the loss of Terry Antonis, Hagi Gligor and Daniel Petkovski, who are with the Young Socceroos.

“It-s going to be really difficult for us, they-ll (Adelaide United) obviously be quite a way in advance of us in terms of their preparation, because they-re prepping for the AFC Champions League, so it-s going to be a tough test,” Crook said.

Saturday’s game at Marconi Stadium kicks off at 5pm.
