Rhys Youlley handed down suspension following red card

Rhys Youlley has been handed down a suspension following his red card on Sunday afternoon against Wellington Phoenix.

The independent Match Review Panel considered an incident in relation to Rhys Youlley (Youlley) of Sydney FC (Sydney) in or around the 43rd minute of the match against Wellington Phoenix FC on Sunday, 18 January 2026, in which Youlley received a direct Red Card.

In accordance with the A-Leagues Disciplinary Regulations (Regulations), the MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Youlley was issued with a direct Red Card by the Referee.

The MRP determined that Youlley committed the offence of “Serious foul play (e.g. when challenging for the ball).” The Minimum Sanction for the Offence is one (1) match, being the Mandatory Match Suspension. The MRP proposed that Youlley serve a suspension of three (3) matches being the Mandatory Match Suspension plus two (2) additional matches.

Youlley has until 2:00pm AEDT on Tuesday, 20 January 2026 to advise Football Australia whether he wishes to refer the matter to the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee.

Should they not appeal, Youlley will be available for selection again on Saturday 14th February for the Sky Blues’ clash with Adelaide United at Allianz Stadium.
