Revised W-League Fixtures Revealed

Fixture Change Gfx

Sydney FC’s revised Westfield W-League fixtures have been revealed with the Sky Blues now set to begin their campaign on Wednesday 30th December in an away #SydneyDerby clash at BankWest Stadium (kick off 4.35pm).

The match is part of a triple treat of W-League games on that day to launch the season and comes as Fox Sports announce an increase in the number of televised Westfield W-League matches from 33 to 45.

Ante Juric’s squad have a bye in match week two before travelling to the Hunter for a clash with Newcastle Jets at MacDonald Jones Stadium on Friday 8th January (kick off 4.35pm).

The Sky Blues head to Stadium Australia (formerly ANZ Stadium) on Saturday 16th January for a home #SydneyDerby double header against the Wanderers at 7.35pm; a game which now kicks off after the A-League clash between the clubs.

Sydney FC will round out the opening five match weeks with a trip to Viking Park to play Canberra United (kick off 4.05pm) on Sunday 24th January, with further fixture announcements to come once travel restrictions are known.

The decision to move the initial season opener (on Dec 27th) back three days was taken in conjunction with the NSW government and as a result of the COVID-19 restrictions that are in place in Sydney over the Christmas period.

Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Danny Townsend said: “We are pleased to be working with the government to help mitigate any risk to crowds and the movement of people over the Christmas and New Year period.

“We also want to ensure that we can still show the best the A-League and Westfield W-League has to offer within the current restrictions.

“I’d like to once again thank all of our Members for their loyalty and support throughout the year, especially in relation to fixture changes which can be frustrating at times.

“It is very much appreciated and I want to wish all our Members and supporters a very safe and Merry Christmas with their families.”

All other fixture adjustments are in response to the restricted travel which now applies to people going from New South Wales into other States and Territories, meaning the clubs within New South Wales will continue to play against each other.

Sydney FC’s revised fixture away to Canberra United on January 21st is still pending border restrictions being lifted.

Capacity levels will also be reduced to 50% for all games in NSW until the end of December in line with the guidance for New Year’s Eve celebrations state-wide.
