Reddy Joins A-League Champions

Hyundai A-League 2010 Champions Sydney FC today announced the signing of goalkeeper Liam Reddy to a three-year contract.

Hyundai A-League 2010 Champions Sydney FC today announced the signing of goalkeeper Liam Reddy to a three-year contract.

Reddy played a starring role in Wellington Phoenix-s run to the A-League Preliminary Final this season and will join Ivan Necevski in the Sky Blues goal keeping ranks with the pair to battle it out for the sides starting position from day one of preseason.

The 28-year-old shot stopper has played 101 A-League games since debuting for the Newcastle Jets in 2005 and joins Sydney FC – the side who boasted the premier defence in season 2009/10.

“What a time to be joining Sydney FC,” Reddy said. “I am really happy to back in my hometown and I am here to do whatever it takes to continue the success the club had this year.”

“I had a strong season with Wellington and it was some of the best football I have played. I am going to work as hard as I can continue my own form but be part of winning team.

“The prospect of working under Vitezslav, Tony, Michal and especially John Filan is an amazing opportunity and is something that doesn-t come along very often. There are a lot of excellent players here as well and playing alongside them will be special.

“Even though the club achieved so much this season it is still hungry for more. I want to be a part that culture and I feel I can add to it.

“Sydney FC is an excellent club, current champions and has the Asian Champions League on the horizon so it is an exciting time.”

Reddy, who added nine clean sheets and 75 saves to his A-League career this season, will begin preseason training with his new Sky Blue teammates on June 7.

“Liam showed he is a very talented goal keeper with the season he had and was a major part in Wellington-s success,” Sydney FC goalkeeping coach John Filan said. “He is aggressive and strong in the air and has a safe pair of hands.”

“He made plenty of world class saves throughout the year plus he also rose to the occasion and made a number of crucial saves in penalty shoot outs during the finals.

“That shows he is also mentally strong. He has a lot of potential and being here at Sydney FC we expect him to take that to another level.

“We have two outstanding keepers at the club and they will push each other to new heights.”

Sydney FC CEO Edwin Lugt said the club was extremely pleased to have secured the services of Reddy and would now focus on furtherer strengthening the team-s roster.

“Liam comes to the club with big wraps and under the guidance of John Filan and the clubs coaching staff has the potential to be a terrific keeper and important part of the team,” Lugt said.

“The club will now continue to work on adding more players in key positions on the field.”
