Fresh from scoring her first ever Westfield W-League goal, we caught up with Sydney FC youngster Princess Ibini to chat about her goal and the Sky Blues upcoming semi-final against Canberra United at McKellar Park.
Firstly, congratulations on your first Westfield W-League goal. How did that feel?
I was very excited to score my first W-League goal, I was very shocked to get it but it was a very nice feeling.
When you saw the ball hit the back of the net what were you thinking?
I was really overjoyed to get my first goal, I didn’t really know how to feel or celebrate when I saw it go in but it was a nice feeling.
It’s your first season in the Westfield W-League. What have you made of it?
It’s been a really good experience getting to play in the W-League in my first year and it’s been really good how far we’ve gone this season.
What stands out for you as your highlights for the season?
There’s two highlights for me. Obviously playing my first ever W-League game was a massive achievement and scoring my first W-League goal is also definitely a highlight.
What were you expecting in your first season in the W-League?
I expected to just get experience and learn a lot from the girls, but to make the semi-finals is definitely a bonus to what I’ve been working for.
What are your thoughts on Sunday’s semi-final? Are you confident the girls can overcome Canberra?
I’m looking forward to the semi-final but I’m also very nervous. I believe the girls do have the ability to defeat Canberra, we’ve got some very good players. It’s going to be a very tough and intense match and Canberra will be tough to break down but as long as the girls carry out the game plan I’m confident they can do it.
