Putney Rangers FC are Sydney FC-s Local Club of the Week and have won a $500 grant from St. George Bank after being entered into the competition by club Treasurer Chris Rutter who highlighted the club-s commitment to player development.
Playing in the Gladesville Hornsby Football Association, Putney Rangers are a club who have devoted themselves to the development of their players- skills from the juniors all the way through to their senior teams.
“We are the only club in our area who have a structured programs for our minis (U6-U8) through Kickstart which develops their skills from an early age whist having fun,” club Treasurer Chris Rutter said.
“We concentrate on development and are proud to say we encourage our players to try out for representative squads.
“Although this may sometimes harm our chances of trophies, it shows we care for our players prospects. Last year four of our under nine division one team were accepted in SAP (representative) squads while this year three players have been accepted in the local association academy squad.”
Putney Rangers FC have 36 teams competing in divisions ranging from under sixes to the over 45 age group and have nearly 500 registered players both men and women.
In winning the award Rutter said the grant would go a long way to purchasing new jerseys for the junior teams as well as extra equipment for their junior programs.
“I-m ecstatic that we-ve won,” said Rutter.
“We-re looking at getting some new playing gear for the junior teams so this grant will really help with that.
“I-d just like to say thank you again to Sydney FC and St. George Bank for giving us this opportunity and for giving back to local teams to help clubs keep developing football players of the future.”
