Sydney FC-s Westfield W-League Head Coach Alen Stajcic is taking pride in the football his squad produced after the Sky Blue Ladies fell 3-2 to Melbourne Victory in Sunday-s semi-final at WIN Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah.

Throughout the season Sydney FC-s WWL squad have produced some fantastic performances, including a 5-1 triumph against the Victory in the first game of the season, a 4-0 win against the Jets and an 8-2 thrashing of Perth Glory.

Sydney FC added to its highlight reel, competing at the Mobcast International Women-s Club Championship, as the Sky Blue Ladies mixed it with some of the best women-s teams in the world with the girls finishing third overall.

“We-re disappointed with our ending to the season,” Stajcic said.

“I am still though very proud of the modern attacking football we played this year. It-s a shame we couldn’t capitalise on our good play with some silverware.”

The Sky Blues Ladies put on a determined display in their semi-final, clawing back from two goals down to equalise just after the break, however it was a penalty that ultimately decided the match in Victory-s favour.

“I thought Melbourne were the better team for the first 35 minutes,” said Stajcic

“But then I thought we controlled the match, until their penalty which won them the game. Four penalties in the last four games have cost us unfortunately.”

Stajcic also praised the level of support the Sky Blue Ladies received this season, with an upturn in membership numbers and a continued backing by the vociferous Cove the catalyst for the season that was.

“I-d like to thank all supporters and wish all the staff and players all the best in the off season and near future,” he said.
