Sydney FC defender Nikola Petkovic has his sights set firmly on winning the grand final with the Sky Blues after finalising a two year contract extension with the two time Hyundai A-League Champions.

Petkovic, who signed in September from Red Star Belgrade, has played every minute of every game for the Sky Blues and said he-d made his mind up to stay in Sydney a number of months ago.
“I-m very happy to stay at Sydney FC,” Petkovic said.
“I decided after 2 months that I wanted to stay here.
“Sydney I think is the biggest club. We have big ambitions for the future. We are around the top 6 but for us our target is to be in the grand final,” he continued.
“We have to fight these last 10 games to stay in the top 6 and afterwards maybe we have a chance to win the grand final.”
The Serbian defender is now looking to prove he is worthy of the new deal and promised fans that he would continue pushing himself each week as he revealed Head Coach Frank Farina had instilled a leadership role upon him.
“I need to just work hard,” said Petkovic.
“Especially after signing a new contract, I need to prove myself more and more every week and work hard to stay in good shape.
“We [the Farina and I] talked and he told me that he wants me to be one of the leaders in the team and the defence line especially.”
Sydney FC next play Adelaide United at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night (kick off 7:45pm) and Petkovic believes this match will be a test of the Sky Blues character as they approach the finals series.
“We need to switch on for the game on Saturday night,” Petkovic said.
“I think we need to win these two games at home and I think everything will be ok after.
“This first game against Adelaide is important, it will be hard, but we need to switch on after the game in Melbourne. We must win.”
