Sydney FC has granted Anas Ouahim a termination from the final year of his contract to allow the German midfielder to move closer to his son in Germany.
Ouahim made 33 appearances for the Sky Blues across all competitions in the 2024/25 campaign, contributing to the club’s push to the A-League Men Finals Series and reaching the AFC Champions League 2 semi-finals.
The German-born midfielder said the decision was based firmly on family priorities but he was also excited to pursue a new opportunity in the Middle East.
“I’m disappointed to be leaving but the reason for my departure is to be closer to my son, who still lives in Germany,” Ouahim said.
“At the moment, the distance makes it difficult for me to see him, and I’m very thankful to the club for supporting my decision and allowing me to end the final year of my contract.
“I’ve also been presented with an exciting opportunity in the Middle East, which brings me closer to family.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to have been part of Sydney FC and have cherished every moment here.

“Everyone I’ve met in Australia has been so welcoming, and the people at the club are some of the nicest I’ve come across—it truly feels like a family.
“I’ll miss everyone deeply but will carry strong friendships with me wherever I go.”
Head Coach Ufuk Talay paid tribute to Ouahim’s contribution on and off the field.
“We’re sorry to see Anas go, as he’s been a fantastic professional and a great teammate throughout his time here,” Talay said.
“We fully respect his decision to be closer to his son and family, and we wish him nothing but success with his new opportunity.”
Ouahim’s 33 appearances consisted of 22 in the A-League, 10 in the AFC Champions League 2 and one Australia Cup tie. He scored seven goals.
