Opening weekend of Liberty A-League revealed

The opening round of fixtures for the Liberty A-League have been revealed with some blockbuster clashes, headlined by Sydney FC’s match-up.

The Liberty A-League Champions will open their 2023/24 campaign with a Sydney Derby against cross-town rivals the Western Sydney Wanderers and continuing off the momentum of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, it will be held at one of the World Cup venues, Allianz Stadium.

Building off the unprecedented hype of the Women’s World Cup, the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) has established the aim to break domestic attendance records on the opening weekend.

A-Leagues commissioner Nick Garcia said the opening round of the season is the perfect opportunity for fans around Australia and New Zealand who were swept up in the hype of the World Cup to continue to show their passion for football by attending the A-League Women.

The hype around the FIFA Women’s World Cup is hopefully going to continue into the A-Leagues season

“We are delighted to announce these first round fixtures as we set our sights on record breaking domestic attendances for the opening weekend,” he said. “We know there is a huge appetite for football in Australia and New Zealand right now, so if you loved the last month, then come and be part of what will be a very special experience.

“Our work to capitalise on the FIFA Women’s World Cup began more than two years ago, we’ve since added three more teams, and we start this season with a full home-and-away season, every game broadcast live and free, and a blockbuster round of opening games.”
