Sydney FC midfield star Brandon O’Neill says the best is yet to come from the Sky Blues, with Head Coach Steve Corica’s side sitting top of the table following wins in their opening two games.
O’Neill believes there’s even better football to be played by the reigning Champions, with a top of the table #SydneyDerby looming on Saturday at Bankwest Stadium.
“I’ve seen many glimpses of our best football in just the first two games, and we can only get better,” O’Neill said.
“I’m actually really looking forward to seeing us play at the end of the year.
“It’s awesome to be saying this because it’s only two rounds in and we’ve got maximum points, which is really exciting.
“There’s still things we need to work on but we looked really dangerous going forward [on Sunday].”
Reflecting on Sunday’s win over the Phoenix, O’Neill praised the atmosphere and playing conditions at Leichardt Oval.
The midfielder bagged a goal and an assist in the 2-1 win and said the team couldn’t have done it without the support from the club’s Members and fans.
“The atmosphere that the Sydney [FC] supporters and The Cove can get into a stadium like that is second to none and it definitely helped us get the win,” O’Neill said.
“It’s what you want to do as a Sydney FC player, playing at a traditional home footballing ground.
“To get 13,000 people to pack in on a Sunday afternoon and with blue skies about, there’s nothing really better as a footballer.”
O’Neill, who has played an integral part of the Sky Blues’ success over recent years, has also praised the club in helping get to his five-year milestone celebrated this season.
“I am very humbled to not only work with this group of players, but the all the coaching staff as well. It’s also amazing to see that we have a great relationship with our fans,” he said.
“I can proudly say I’ve won everything at this club and I want to win as much as I can for as long as I can at the club.
“It’s good to know that I am a big part of making this club the most successful in Australia for a long time to come.”
The Sky Blues take on Western Sydney Wanderers this Saturday 26th October at Bankwest Stadium (kick off 7:30pm). Watch on Fox Sports 505 of follow @SydneyFC on Twitter for live updates from the clash.
