NPL take on Hills United in midweek clash

Sydney FC NPL will take on Hills United on Wednesday night in what will be a busy week for the club.

Having taken on St George FC on Saturday night, they will now take on the other newly promoted side on Wednesday night at Landen Stadium before backing up against the Mariners NPL on Friday night.

For tonights clash, the Sky Blues will be looking to find the net with more ease than they did on Saturday night with St George playing in a low block and restricting Jimmy van Weeren’s side to shots from distance or half chances inside the box.

While they did dominate play that night, they failed to overturn the 2-0 first half deficit despite a first NPL goal from Marin France with 15 minutes left to play.

On Sunday, Hills United travelled up the M1 to take on Central Coast Mariners and raced out to a 2-0 lead after the first 12 minutes of the game, however the hosts scored four goals on the bounce to head into a 4-2 lead with 10 minutes to spare.

Tiago Quintal will be looking to keep his form up

Hills would get on the scoresheet once more and had one ruled out for handball, however the Mariners managed to score one late to settle any nerves and record their first win of the season.

As for Hills, they sit in the bottom three of the table having won one match and losing the other two. They haven’t been shy of goals though, scoring an average of two per game so far.

As the NPL season returns to include finals once again, the competition was forced into more midweek matches to make up for the finals series at the end of the season.

For this clash, Jimmy van Weeren will welcome back a number of A-League scholars who impressed in the 2-0 victory over Manly United a week prior. This provides more valuable gametime for these boys who came off the bench on Saturday night in the Sydney Derby at CommBank Stadium.

Mitch Glasson is included in the squad against Hills United

Three points tonight could see the Sky Blues move level on points with league leaders Blacktown City.
