Mickael Tavares joined Sydney FC during the January Transfer Window of the 2014/15 season. Tavares plays mainly as a defensive midfielder and has experience of playing in the UEFA Champions League against the likes of Arsenal, Sevilla and Steaua Bucharest while at Slavia Prague and also in the top flight of the German Bundesliga for SV Hamburger. The 32 year old has played 25 times for Senegal and is the cousin of fellow new Sky Blue, Jacques Faty. Tavares made a total of 12 apperances during his first season with Sydney FC and will continue to represent the Sky Blues until season 2016/17 following th renewal of his contract for a further two years.
