Sydney FC have received a boost ahead of Saturday’s clash with Gold Coast United by signing foundation player Terry McFlynn to a new three year deal.
Hyundai A-League competition leaders Sydney FC have received a boost ahead of Saturday-s clash with Gold Coast United by signing foundation player Terry McFlynn to a new three year deal.
McFlynn-s contract extension signifies the start of Sydney FC-s process of securing the core of its future squad, which currently sits on top of the Hyundai A-League ladder.
McFlynn joined Sydney FC on the eve of the club-s debut 2005/06 season and has committed to the Sky Blues through until the end of the 2012/13 season.
The midfield general has been the heart and soul of the Sydney FC squad for the past four-and-a-half years and his signature is a massive boost to Sydney FC-s desire to continue its stabilisation on and off the pitch.
McFlynn, who has represented Northern Ireland at every level except full international, has played 79 A-League games for Sydney FC including the 2005/06 Grand Final.
The 28-year-old was overjoyed with the new deal, stating: “I don-t want to play football for any other clubs, either in Australia or anywhere else”.
“I-ve been at Sydney FC for five years and I couldn-t be happier to be signing on for another three years. I have grown to love the club, my family is here and I see Sydney as my home.”
McFlynn also identified the club-s change in direction and culture shift as a big reason for his decision to extend his stay to what will be eight years at the end of the new contract.
“I honestly believe we are putting together something special here at Sydney FC, both short term and long term, and I-m happy to be a part of what we are doing,” McFlynn said.
“Everything we are doing is extremely professional and we are looked after very well here. We have a strong group of players and this is where I want to play my football.”
McFlynn-s contract extension was welcomed by Sydney FC-s current coach Vitezslav Lavicka. “Terry is a very important player for us. He is the type of player we want to help (lift) the professional standards.
“Terry has decided to stay for three more years and this is a good thing for Sydney FC. He is very professional in the training and in the games.”
