Max Burgess was shown a red card in Saturday’s Big Blue victory over Melbourne Victory.
The result of the match review panel is as follows:
Round 19 Isuzu UTE A-League Men: Sydney FC vs Melbourne Victory FC – Max Burgess (Sydney FC)
The MRP considered an incident involving Max Burgess (Burgess) of Sydney FC in or around the 84th minute of Sydney FC’s A-League Men match against Melbourne Victory FC on Saturday, 4 March 2023.
In accordance with the A-Leagues Disciplinary Regulations (the Regulations), the MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Burgess was issued with a direct Red Card by the Referee.
The MRP determined that Burgess committed the offence of “Assault on a Player (e.g., violent conduct when not challenging for the ball) or against any other person other than a Match Official, including attempted Assault”. The minimum sanction for the offence is two (2) matches, being the Mandatory Match Suspension plus one (1) additional match. The MRP confirmed that Burgess will serve a suspension of two (2) matches, being the minimum sanction for the offence.
Max will now miss the Wellington Phoenix clash and also the highly anticipated Sydney Derby.
