Match Preview: Sydney FC v Western United

Sydney FC travel down to Victoria to take on Western United at AAMI Park on Wednesday afternoon. The home side find themselves on top of the Isuzu Ute A-League ladder after their 3-2 win over the Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday night.

Steve Corica and his side were left frustrated after some goalkeeping heroics from Oli Sail kept his side to a 1-1 draw with the Wellington Phoenix after dominating most of the contest.

Team news: Paulo Retre returns to the squad after serving a one game suspension while Corica will be boosted by the return of attacker Kosta Barbarouses who returned from injury against the Phoenix and played 15 minutes. Striker Bobo will be looking to start after the Brazilian once again scored for Sydney FC after coming on as a substitute in the second half. There’s been speculation that new signing Luciano Narsingh could feature however it’s more likely that the Netherlands international will most likely get minutes in Saturday’s Grand Final rematch against Melbourne City at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

For Western United, the home side are coming off the back of a 3-2 win at home against the Western Sydney Wanderers. United made headlines after Ben Garrucio’s spectacular scorpion kick goal and John Aloisi’s side find themselves in a healthy position on top of the ladder. Connor Pain was ruled out with a foot injury and coach John Aloisi confirmed that he will miss this match as well.

Last time: Sydney FC and Western United played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium. Steven Lustica gave Western United the lead but his strike was cancelled out in the second half by Max Burgess.
