Match Preview: Sydney FC Gunning For Round Six Victory

Sydney FC will host round six of the Isuzu-UTE A-League competition at Allianz Stadium this Saturday evening. The Sky Blues will go head-to-head with 8th placed Perth Glory hoping to gain three crucial points on the ladder. Each team are coming off a loss and it will be a high intensity game to see who can return to winning ways.

Sydney FC and Perth Glory last met in round 24 during the 2022/2023 season. With a Sydney FC crowd rallying behind them, the Sky Blues triumphed Perth Glory with a 4-1 win on home turf.

Joe Lolley of Sydney FC and Zachary Duncan of Glory contest the ball during the round 24 A-League Men’s match.

In their previous showdowns, Sydney FC have dominated their Western Australian counterparts. The Sky Blues have won 31 out of the 53 games played against Perth Glory, with only conceding 10 matches. Sydney FC’s very own winger, Joe Lolley, has an impeccable track record against Perth Glory. With sharp attacking skills and immediately knowing his way to goal, the Englishman has netted a goal in the last two matches against Perth Glory. Being the first player to kick off Sydney FC’s goal campaign this season, fans can anticipate Lolley gunning for net during this face-off.

This round six match up will also see two Sydney FC legends go head-to-head in the coach’s box. Sky Blues newly appointed Head Coach, Ufuk Talay had represented Sydney FC 59 times, scoring six goals between the years of 2006 and 2008. Talay has two Championships for Sydney FC under his belt as both a player and Assistant Coach.

Glory’s Head Coach, Alen Stajcic has an impressive history with the Sky Blues. After being the inaugural Head Coach for the Sky Blues’ Women squad, Stajcic was inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame after his success.

However, the injury battle continues as the Sky Blues will forgo midfielder Max Burgess and defender Jack Rodwell, each of whom are recovering from injuries sustained from previous rounds.

To soften the injury blow for Sydney FC, Perth Glory will also miss Bruce Kamau, Antonis Martis, Riley Warland, David Williams and Adam Zimarino from their roster this weekend.

Despite their ongoing feud with minor injuries, Sydney FC have won a total of 17 games at Allianz Stadium. With a home atmosphere in their favour, the Sky Blues will have no trouble putting on a spectacle for football fans.

Rhyan Grant challenging opposition.

A key player match-up to look out for is Sydney FC defender Gabriel Lacerda verses Perth Glory forward Adam Taggart. Lacerda hailing from Ceara SC, has made over 100 appearances for the Brazilian club. Since landing a one-year loan contract, Lacerda has made his mark on Australian soil after reaching an 83.9{3302a4a97df51ab71377f818b10857871066f471bffc8f5d55c900040a563c05} successful pass rate.

Going head-to-head with Lacerda will be no easy task for Adam Taggart. Taggart has had an impressive A-League career starting in youth ranks. A Golden Boot and Young Footballer of the Year recipient, Taggart is no stranger to high intensity football. Will Lacerda’s tenacious defence fend off Taggart’s artistry?

This weekend’s round six battle is sure to keep fans on their toes. Will it be the Sky Blues who claims home soil victory this weekend or will Glory secure a win at Allianz Stadium?
