Sydney FC midfielder Marco Tilio is to leave the Hyundai A-League Champions.
The Sky Blues Academy product joined the club as a 14-year old having been scouted by Sydney FC Technical Director -Youth, Kelly Cross in 2015.
He progressed into the Sydney FC first team this season, scoring on his Hyundai A-League debut against Central Coast Mariners.
Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica expressed disappointment but acknowledged the high standard of competition within the squad.
“We offered Marco a contract to stay but like all our players he wants to play first team football,” he said.
“Unfortunately we cannot give any guarantees regarding starting spots at Sydney FC.
“They have to be earned and we have excellent competition for places in all areas.
“We have seen the likes of Joel King, Luke Ivanovic, Trent Buhagiar and Harry van der Saag break into the starting line-up in recent times and we will always give opportunities to young players who earn their chance.
“We wish Marco well for his future career.”
Tilio made six appearances for the Sky Blues scoring one goal.
