Sydney FC-s major partner IGA are set to create history on Monday as they attempt to set the world record for the largest kids penalty shootout.

Set at Queen-s Park Soccer Fields in Sydney, former Sydney FC striker John Aloisi will be in attendance as the face of IGA-s Future Soccer stars promotion, taking photos and signing autographs with the world record participants; children aged eight to twelve.

Remembered for perhaps one of the most famous penalties in Australian Football, that took the Socceroos to the World Cup in 2006, it seems only right to have Aloisi present for another record penalty shootout however this time the former Sky Blue, who won a Premiership and Championship with Sydney FC, will be on the receiving end as he fronts up as goalkeeper for the record attempt.

The day will act as the launch of IGA-s Future Soccer Stars national promotion which will last for four weeks and see football clubs across the country given the opportunity to win a share of $150,000 worth of grants in a bid to help foster new football talent.

To enter, simply shop at IGA, keep the receipt and enter some details online at iga.com.au/futurestars.

Each entry gives soccer clubs the chance to win one of 15 weekly $2,500 IGA grants and also contributes towards the chance for a local football club to win the grand prize of a $10,000 grant and a training session with John Aloisi.

“IGA has always been a big supporter of the locals,” said Angela Borrelli, NSW State Marketing Manager for Metcash Food and Grocery.

“Being a World Cup Year we saw an opportunity to jump in on the enthusiasm but rather than do what everyone else was doing like giving away a few tickets to the World Cup, we wanted to run a grass roots promotion to help support the local communities .

“It-s all about the kids and helping young local football players get off on the right foot, and become the stars of tomorrow.”

Entry is open to children aged 8-12 years old. Please print out and fill out the waiver form on Monday!
