Sydney FC defender and Australian captain Lucas Neill has brought smiles to the faces of kids at the Sydney Children-s Hospital by personally stopping by for a chat and to hand them a signed jersey.
The centre half spent over two hours meeting with around 30 children and their families before congratulating the hospital staff on the work they do.
“It was amazing to be able to come here and put a smile on their faces,” said the former Premier League star.
“It-s been truly humbling and a great privilege and honour to be here.”
Neill visited two wards and delighted the children by writing individual messages on the Socceroos jersey-s he brought with him.
As well as Australian children the 35 year old international also met kids from as far away as Canada, South Africa and Ireland.
“The staff are absolutely amazing and there-s no shock in realising why everybody considers this the best children-s hospital in Australia because they do an amazing job and a lot of hard work goes into making sure these kids have the best chance.
“For me it has been such a huge reality check and such a grounding experience.”
Sydney FC have been regular visitors to the Sydney Children-s Hospital in Randwick in recent years to hand out presents and sign autographs for the boys and girls on the wards.
The Sydney Children-s Hospital Foundation is one of Sydney FC-s community partners.
