Lolley – No stranger to big occasion

Sydney FC winger Joe Lolley is no stranger to big Derby atmospheres and reckons the Sydney version is one of the best.

The wide-man has experienced the raucous nature of football’s massive matches from his time in the UK.

He said: “One of my first games at Huddersfield was Huddersfield vs Leeds which was a Derby, so fair to say I remember that well.”

“[Nottingham] Forest and Derby, that’s another one and a huge one at that.

Lolley tussling at the last Sydney Derby

“I think I played in them maybe nine or ten times and actually never lost to Derby and managed to nab a couple of goals too.”

After translating his goal scoring form down under, Sydney’s number ten is looking forward to the chance to nab one against Wanderers this Saturday at Allianz Stadium.

“I scored a couple of goals in Derbies in the UK and its always a great opportunity to play in any Derby match and now the Sydney Derby is next up” Lolley added.

Having played at many small and intimate venues around England, Lolley can’t wait to hear the Sydney Derby at its best.

“I’m really looking forward to see the stadium on Saturday night and I know the atmosphere is going to be brilliant.

The Sydney Derby atmosphere is un-rivalled

“The atmosphere and the crowd make you feel like it is a proper, proper game that means a lot.

“Both games could’ve gone either way and there has been a bit of drama, bit tension and when the stadium is packed you love the noise it generates,” the winger said.

“When it’s full or even close to full, it’s just brilliant.”

Lolley will be looking to make it back-to-back Derby wins on Saturday evening at Allianz Stadium as they look to continue the Wanderers poor form away from home.
