Kucharski ready to fight for Sydney

Jaiden Kucharski has written himself into Sydney Derby folklore having scored the winning goal in the 2024 edition at Allianz Stadium.

It was the latest ever match winning goal for the club in their 20 years of history and this Saturday, the 22-year-old will be looking to repeat the feat when Western Sydney come to town in the 41st Sydney Derby.

Standing atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Kucharski realised the magnitude of the match that divides the city.

“This city is beautiful and the first time I’ve seen it from this level without being in a plane.

“Sydney is beautiful and worth playing for,” Kucharski said.

“The Derby is obviously a big game to put a performance on for but looking from up here and seeing what we’re actually fighting for is all the motivation you need.”

This season, Kucharski has found the net three times and has a knack of scoring late on in matches which he did in the last meeting however play was brought back with VAR due to a foul in the build up.

And with the next encounter looming on the horizon, he can’t wait to recreate his past success.

“Scoring a winner like I did in the Derby is something that you dream of and people say I am now part of Derby folklore.

“Having that in the back of my mind, hopefully it can help me do it again on the weekend,” he concluded.
