Johnson Enjoying Westfield W-League Foray

While her counterpart has been banging in the goals American Samantha Johnson has been setting them up, with the Sky Blues import bagging a brace of assists in her first two matches and putting in a number of good performance at left back.

As Sydney FC prepare to defend their unbeaten start to the season away to the Newcastle Jets on Saturday (kick off 3pm), Johnson said she’s enjoying her first foray into football overseas and is impressed with the football on offer in Australia.

“I didn’t really know what to expect,” she said.

“This is my first time playing overseas, however I am pleased with the competition and I am learning a lot from my teammates from a soccer perspective.

“The transition has been very smooth thankfully. I have a great team and staff that make me feel right at home,” she continued.

“I am mostly impressed with the style of soccer. The training sessions and the entire culture is impressive.

“I feel I have a lot to work on as a player and I knew I could get better if I came to Australia. I am happy with how much I have learned in such a short period of time and I’m very thankful for this opportunity.”

Sydney FC come up against a Newcastle Jets side who have won two of their opening four matches, most recently dispatching Adelaide United 4-0, however Johnson is confident the Sky Blues can regain top spot on the ladder with victory at Magic Park on Saturday afternoon.

“We just have to play good soccer and play to the best of our abilities as a team and individually,” Johnson said.

“We just have to execute what we train and have each other’s back and we will be fine.

“You always want to have confidence and I have the upmost confidence in my team without a doubt.”
