Sydney FC striker Joel Chianese has praised new recruits Yairo Yau, Kruno Lovrek and Ali Abbas, after the Sky Blues disposed of St George 5-0 in a pre season friendly match at WIN Jubilee Kogarah last night.
The combination formed the pointy end of Ian Crook-s 4-3-3 formation, and looked lethal as all four attackers managed to find the back of the net, as did fellow striker Mitch Mallia when he entered the match after the break.
Despite little time training together, Lovrek and Chianese helped the Sky Blues to a 2-0 half time lead as they combined for a goal each in the first half.
“It was good to get out there and get a bit more of an understanding of Kruno, Yao, Ali and the guys in the attacking third,” said Chianese. “We seemed to gel pretty well and the passing was pretty smooth.”
Chianese was in the thick of action early, however pre-season rust limited Joel to only one goal.
“It-s good to get on the scoresheet,” Chianese said.” I missed a few early ones. I-m a bit rusty.”
Unfortunately for Chianese, he didn-t get a chance to add to his tally as he was substituted after his 30th minute goal due to a quad injury sustained as he scored.
Chianese has had the niggling injury over pre-season and is confident the injury was minor.
“It did feel more like a strain when I did do it,” he said. Hopefully it-s not too serious.”
Even though it-s only pre-season, Chianese is looking for the squad to continue to win each game.
“If you get in a winning mentality you might not know any other way, it-s good to win games no matter what opposition you are playing against,” he added.
