Sydney FC marquee man Marc Janko is confident his Austrian squad can prevail on Thursday 9 October when they take on Moldova in the second group stage match of the UEFA 2016 European Championships qualifiers.

After a tough opening round draw against Sweden in which Janko completed 68 minutes, the Austrian front man believes his squad were unlucky to only come away with a point and has high hopes of prevailing in Chisinau.

“It’s always a great honour to play and represent your country so as you can imagine I’m always very proud of having the chance to do so,” Janko said.

“We’re very confident that we can build on the performance against Sweden. Most of the people who saw that game will think we’re supposed to win this game as we’re the better team.”

Janko has scored against some of the best countries competing, including Italy and France, however he says he’s not fazed whether he scores or not as long as the team come away with the three points and progress in Group G.

“It’s always difficult to predict to score and in the end it doesn’t matter who scores as long as the team is having success,” he said.

“What I can definitely say is that I’m always trying my best.

“There are some days where it’s working out great and there are also some days where nothing works out so we’ll see.”

The Sky Blues number 21 departs Australia on a high note after bagging his second goal for Sydney FC in a friendly draw with a sublime strike on the turn and Janko has vowed to deliver that goal scoring prowess in the regular season come October.

“It’s always good to score,” he said.

“For a striker that’s my job and I’m very happy that I could score against one of the best teams in the A-League.

“It just shows that I’m capable of delivering on a high level so I hope I can continue that into the regular season.”
