Ivanovic Surprises Parents With Starting Debut

Sydney FC youngster Luke Ivanovic might have a bit of explaining to do at home following his Hyundai A-League exploits on Sunday at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium against Melbourne City.

Making his first start of the season, and scoring his maiden professional strike, Ivanovic revealed he didn’t tell his parents he was making his starting debut in order to surprise them at Kogarah in our last Hyundai A-League outing there for season 2018/19.

Ivanovic was lost for words when describing his strike against City that paved the way for three points, as he lapped up the applause from the 13,000 strong crowd.

“I got told on Thursday that I’d be starting, I didn’t tell my parents as well so it was surprise for them to see me starting,” Ivanovic said.

“They’re over the moon but now I’ve got to keep going and score more goals.

“I’m definitely buzzing,” Ivanovic said reflecting on his goal.

“I felt like I should have scored in other weeks after coming on but for some reason it wouldn’t go in, but scoring in my first start – what a feeling.

“It was like any other goal but it was a bit more special for me because it was my first start and my first A-League goal so I couldn’t be any happier.

“Those are the sort of runs and passes I like, that’s what we work on at training and it’s what Ninko and Paulo are so good at doing, feeding us up front so we can score.

“It’s different leading into the game because you know you’re starting,” he continued.

“Things do change a bit but it’s good to get the first start out of the way now and hopefully there’s a few more to come.”

The 18-year-old copped a battering in his first 30 minutes on the field before departing with a hamstring complaint, however the youngster allayed any fears he’d be out for a period of time through injury.

“My head is ok and my hamstring is not too bad it was just a precaution coming of because it felt tight,” Ivanovic said.

“All I’m looking forward to is more goals.

“I haven’t set a target but I just want to keep on improving and keep on scoring along the way.”

Sydney FC are next in Hyundai A-League action away against Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night (kick off 7:50pm AEDT). #WatchWithUs LIVE on Fox Sports 505 or streamed on the My Football Live App.
