Ibini Returns As Young Sky Blues Fall

Sydney FC’s Foxtel National Youth League squad missed the opportunity to go top of the ladder as they went down 3-0 to Western Sydney Wanderers at Marconi Stadium on Saturday.

Despite being a youth league match there was plenty of A-League talent on display with Wanderers fielding Robert Cornthwaite, Brendan Hamill, Jacob Melling and Josh Sotirio in their line up while Sydney FC gave Bernie Inbini and Riley Woodcock much needed game time.

It was the Wanderers who started the brightest and were on the scoresheet after ten minutes following a turnover of possession by Sydney FC that saw Majok slot home the opener for 1-0.

Majok then sealed a brace on the 35 minute mark courtesy of another Sky Blue turnover in the middle of the park to run through and round Tom Manos for 2-0.

Sydney’s best chance of the 1st half saw a goal bound Ibini header cleared off the line by a scrambling Wanderers defence. Just before the break Manos copped a boot to the face as he bravely saved at the feet of Majok and was replaced by Mitchell Evans.

The second period saw a better display by the Sky Blues with the injection of William Mutch for Bai Antoniou and Cristian Gonzalez replacing Liam McGing.

Sydney FC threatened early with some good penetration out wide however the final ball into the box was either over hit or cut out by the Wanderers keeper.

Former Sydney FC NYL player Lachlan Scott compounded the Sky Blues woes when he headed home the third goal of the match from a set piece to wrap up the 3-0 result.

Sydney FC face a tough road trip next Saturday when they head north to take on the Newcastle Jets at Magic Park, Broadmeadows kick off at 4.00pm.
