“I wouldn’t want to play us” – Rhyan Grant sees Joe Lolley’s injury as an opportunity

Rhyan Grant confident of his side's ability

Rhyan Grant is confident that Sydney FC will win the two-legged semi-final against the Central Coast Mariners – stating he’d rather be playing with Sydney FC than against us.

The record-breaking Sky Blues defender believes this season’s squad have shown they have what it takes in the big games, and that he is glad he’s not defending against it.

Grant says Ufuk Talay’s men are prepared to exhibit their best football, which has reached its pinnacle in recent weeks.

“If I put myself in another team’s shoes, I wouldn’t want to play us,” he said.

“When we play the big games, we turn up and put on a show.

“I’ve got a good feeling around this group. It’s just getting better and better. I’m very confident that we can go all the way and enjoy ourselves.

“I’m glad I’m on our side.”

Grant also reflected on Joe Lolley’s injury and about the season that saw the senior midfielder contribute to 19 of Sydney FC’s goals.

He revealed Lolley has changed the energy within the team, and although the side will miss his impact, they are ready for the challenge.

“Joe’s obviously a massive part of the team and what we do, and off the field, he’s a lively character.

“He loves to watch and analyse games, so his love for the game will be a big loss. [But] he’ll be supporting from the sideline.

“I play behind him, so he does a lot of work for me and a lot of time and I just give him the ball when I’m in a tricky situation.”

Grant also spoke of the opportunities younger players will now earn due to Lolley’s absence.

He said that there are replacements to step in that can change the outcome of the game.

“This is just another excitement for them to go in and really give it a good crack.

“And I’m sure they’re given the chance; everyone will make the most of it.”
