“I am in awe of the players” – Talay

Ufuk Talay speaks to the press after the Mariners clash

Ufuk Talay has been full of praise for his side after they completely dominated the Central Coast Mariners at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.

The Mariners had only lost once in their last 23 matches coming into this one however Ufuk Talay masterminded a complete performance that gave the reigning Champions no chance of continuing that stat.

The Sky Blues dominated the ball and the chances and after that performance, the Head Coach was in awe of what his side were able to produce.

“That was our best performance since I have been here.

“I thought we dominated them from the first whistle to the end and it was a very, very good performance,” Talay said.

“I am very happy that the boys rewarded themselves with two goals in the second half.

“I am in awe of the players and what they produced.”

For this match, Talay changed it slightly on a pressing front and it caught the Mariners off guard.

They kept a clean sheet and limited the opposition to just three shots throughout the entire 90 minutes, compared to their 27 attempts on goal.

With all these factors, Talay reiterated his pleasure at the performance he witnessed from the sideline.

“We have had some good games and some good patches [this season] and then it stops in the second half or we’ve made changes.

“Tonight, I think that the changes we made added value to the team, so I think that the group as a whole was very good tonight,” he said.

Sydney FC were relentless all game

“I thought all the boys who went away with the national teams did a great job. Jordan [Courtney-Perkins] ended up cramping up so we took him off and Robbie we ended up taking off after two goals because we’re thinking ahead for Wednesday night against Perth.”

Ufuk Talay and his side will recharge their batteries before flying to Perth to take on Glory on Wednesday night for their Round 12 catch up match.
