When it comes to sporting markets there are few more competitive than the Harbour City, but this weekend Sydney FC will enjoy the rare pleasure of having the stage all to itself when it hosts Adelaide United in round five of the Hyundai A-League.
With the Swans out of the AFL title race and two NRL semi finals being played away from Sydney, the Sky Blue-s clash with Adelaide United is the only show in town.
“It should be a tough match,” said FC coach, John Kosmina. “We-re travelling nicely in 2nd but Adelaide aren-t too far behind us so it-s important that we get the win, and hopefully there-ll be a big Sydney crowd at the SFS to cheer us home.”
On Wednesday night Adelaide scored a valuable one all draw in its AFC Champions League quarter-final against Japanese team, the Kashima Antlers, and while it-s a short turn around for the South Australian side, Kosmina knows better than to under-estimate his former club.
“They-ll come here with plenty of confidence,” he said. “Obviously all the travelling isn-t ideal but they-ll have gained a lot from that result in Japan and we-re going to have to be on our game.”
Sydney FC-s clash with Adelaide kicks off at 5pm at the Sydney Football Stadium, with pre-purchase tickets on sale through Ticketek.
