Sydney FC adidas Holidays Clinics were in full swing today with the kids getting the chance to meet their Sky Blues heroes at an exclusive signing session at Macquarie University Sports Fields.
The entire Hyundai A-League squad were present to sign posters, hats, youngster-s jerseys and the occasional forehead as the 125+ excited children queued up to meet their favourite players.
The parents couldn-t be happier with the clinics with some travelling from across Australia to be at the sessions to see their kids coached by some of Sydney FC-s Westfield W-League stars, other high level footballers and former Socceroo and Sydney FC midfielder Paul Reid.
“It-s been really good,” Stewart from Victoria said.
“It-s been very technical and all the kids have enjoyed it, it-s been awesome. We travelled up from Victoria for this and if we-re in the area next year we-ll be back.”
Fathers Rob and Alan agreed with Stewart and said it was a great initiative for football in this country.
They were extremely pleased with the level of coaching their sons have received.
“It-s been excellent,” Alan said.
“It gets the kids off the street and up here to have some fun and they get to meet the A-league players and show them a bit more of football in Australia.
“This is my son-s fourth year so we-ll be coming back.”
“They-ve been excellent with the technical skills and development,” Rob said.
“There have been lots of good drills and the coaches are excellent. My son has done a few camps with Sydney FC now and they-ve been great.”
The games and drills received plaudits from all the children while Alessandro Del Piero proved a big hit at the signing session with the children labelling meeting him as a highlight of the clinics.
“I-ve enjoyed it,” Phillip, aged 6 said.
“My favourite bit was the game which we won 3-2.”
“The best bit for me was the one on one drills which I won,” said Andrew, aged 11.
“We played this game where if you score a goal you get to take one of the other team out and we won and I scored 3 goals,” Connor-Ramsay, aged 12 said.
Rosemary, whose son participated in the clinics summed up the sessions best.
“It-s an excellent clinic. I was really impressed with the organisation and the skills that have been taught to the boys,” she said.
“It was a fantastic experience and we-ll be back again. The organisation was fantastic, it was great teaching from the coaches and a wonderful opportunity to meet all the players.
“Thank you so much, thanks to everyone.”
