Sydney FC-s latest acquisition Sasa Ognenovski, says it-s good to be back home after joining the Sky Blues for the remainder of the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season.
The Socceroos defender, who has been handed the number 13 shirt, is confident the Sky Blues can achieve success this season.
“It-s always good to come back home,” Ognenovski said.
“I-m just looking forward to playing and trying to help the team reach their ambitions and goals.
“Sydney FC are an ambitious club and a big club in Australia and I think the team, on their day, can beat anybody.
“Hopefully I can help bring some consistency to them and hopefully we can push forward.”
Ognenovski could come up against his former club Adelaide United at Allianz Stadium on Saturday depending on his availability, following a long flight and a month off from the game. (kick off 7:45pm).
“I-ve been training and I-m pretty fit but it-s up to Frank [if I play],” said Ognenovski.
“If not this week then I-m right to play next week. I-m ready to go.”
After having stints at Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United in the A-League previously, Ognenovski believes that the league has grown in stature since he departed Australia in 2009.
“I think the way it-s been marketed and the fans who have been fantastic [are the biggest changes since I was last here],” Ognenovski said.
“In 2009 it was a strong competition and now we-ve attracted some big names like your Emile Heskeys and Del Pieros and that-s helped the league.
“I-ve worked with Frank [Farina] and Rado [Vidosic] and I know Tony Pignata from my time in the Victorian Premier League, so it-s always nice to come home and see some familiar faces as well.”
