Brett Emerton has admitted his goal from a corner kick against Brisbane Roar on Sunday was deliberate.
The Socceroo was instrumental in the 2-0 win which ended Brisbane’s record unbeaten streak, with his goal direct from the corner one of the highlights.
“I was actually going for goal. You never expect it to hit the back of the net that-s for sure.
“Obviously (there were) very windy conditions and it was always going to be difficult for the keeper to deal with.
“Fortunately it ended up in the back of the net so they all count.”
The Sydney FC midfielder was due to play in front of his home crowd in Campbelltown for the first time on Wednesday night, until the game with Perth Glory was postponed.
But he’ll be looking forward to any re-arranged game there.
“I grew up in the area and still live here at the moment, so it-s an area I-m very fond of.
“It-s a great opportunity for me to come and play in my home town.”
Brett and the rest of the squad trained at the Campbelltown Sports Stadium today in front of a hundred schoolchildren, before signing autographs and having photos taken.
“I-ve never played a football match at this level at the stadium but obviously been here in the past to watch rugby league and school athletics carnivals.
“It-s changed a bit since I was a kid running around but it-s nice to be back,” Emerton said.
The club have launched 3-Game Packs for fans to purchase as ideal Christmas presents starting from only $50. Details for the Festive Football Pack, the Big Night Out Pack and the Football Funday Packs can be found here on our website.
