Girdwood-Reich Signs New Three Year Contract

Sydney FC’s young rising star midfielder Jake Girdwood-Reich has signed a new three-year contract tying him to the Sky Blues until the end of the Isuzu-UTE A-League 2025-26 season.

The 19-year old impressed in his debut year in several high-profile matches, including the A-League Finals victory over Western Sydney Wanderers in May and the 2-1 friendly win over Celtic FC in November.

He also made his full debut in the memorable 3-3 draw with Western United at Allianz Stadium in April.

Sydney FC midfielder Jake Girdwood-Reich is staying in Sky Blue for three more seasons.

“It feels really good, this is my home team and it has a very special place in my heart,” he said.

“The Head Coach believes in me and that was a big reason why I re-signed.

“I showed last season what I can do but I think I’ve got a lot more to show this season.

Girdwood-Reich made a debut in the Australia Cup vs Central Coast Mariners last season but this was his A-League debut.

“I’m physically much better, I’ve got more speed and I feel calmer on the ball after a year playing with the A-League squad.”

Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica is confident Girdwood-Reich will continue to make his mark on the A-League this season.

“Jake has shown great promise since stepping up and I believe we will see the best of him this season,” he said.

“Jake is a smart player who plays with aggression and a lot of heart, he is comfortable on the ball and I think our Members and fans will enjoy watching him.

Jake Girdwood-Reich won the Sydney FC McDonalds Rising Star Award in 2022.

“His contract extension is fully deserved and I’m looking forward to him putting pressure on his team-mates for a starting role.”

Clovelly-born Girdwood-Reich has played 19 times for the Sky Blues’ Isuzu-UTE A-League Men’s team having played at every level of the Sydney FC Academy after signing as a 12-year old in 2016.

He was a Sky Blues Member for many years before signing professional terms.
