Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold said he expects young fullback Alex Gersbach will return to the lineup for Saturday’s clash against Brisbane Roar at Allianz Stadium (kick off 7:30pm).
Gersbach returned late from Olyroos duty last week and was subsequently rested, however Arnold said the 18 year old has been putting in the hard yards in recent days to earn a call up back to the side for the Sky Blues first clash at Allianz Stadium in over one month.
“Everyone is good,” he said.
“We’ve got two days to recover but we’ve got plenty of fresh legs and we’ll be ready for Saturday night.
“Alex is ready, he’s fit, he trained very hard yesterday and he’ll do a bit more than the rest today but I expect that Alex will start on Saturday night.
“We’re at home and every week is a different game plan,” he continued.
“Brisbane are coming to us, it’s a game at home that we have to win. It’ll be a different style this week but I’m very happy with where we’re at, at the moment.
“We’ve worked extremely hard at tightening things up and going forward is getting better and better and as the stats showed you against Melbourne Victory we were as good as them if not better.”
With only four days until the January transfer window closes, Arnold confirmed he was in the hunt for a player to compliment the front third with the AFC Champions League on the horizon.
“I’d like to get one player in there but that’s not proving easy at the moment,” Arnold said.
“It would be an attacking player, not so much a striker as we’ve got Alex Brosque to come back in a week or so.
“Centrally up front we’re well set with Alex, Shane Smeltz, Matty Simon and young George Blackwood so we’ve got some good depth in that department.
“Part of the big job for me in the offseason was building a squad with depth because in three weeks’ time every three days we’ve got a game of football for six weeks with a lot of travel.”
