Hyundai A-League 2010 Champions Sydney FC are in the midst of pre-season training and midfielder Brendan Gan is one player hoping to make his presence known.

The 22-year-old midfielder has undergone a demanding training regime during the off-season in an effort to build up his overall conditioning and the results were on display recently against Manly United.

The right-winger was quick to get on the scoresheet for the Sky Blues in their pre-season 2-1 victory at Cromer Park, latching on to the end of Mark Bridge-s through ball to slot home the opening goal.

”It was good that we got a win for our first game back as that-s always good for everyone-s morale,” he said.

“I still think we have a lot of work to do but this is what our pre-season is all about.

“During the off-season I hit the gym quite heavily and have amassed about 5kgs without putting on any fat.

“I-m pretty pleased so hopefully this helps me become fitter and stronger.

“It was a good little play that came about which helped me to get on the scoresheet, which is always good.

“The team played very well which I thought was a good sign.

“We have our fitness building up which is very good for us; we are training at 100% and that will help us go far this year.”

Coach Vitezslav Lavicka utilised 18 players during the Sky Blues- opening pre-season fixture, including new signings Scott Jamieson and Nick Carle.

Having made the step-up from the club-s National Youth League ranks, Gan is aware that these new additions, alongside established players such as Terry McFlynn, can only help improve and develop his own game.

“The A-League is getting better each season and the arrival of new faces has been awesome,” he said.

“It-s always good to play with experienced players, such as Nicky Carle, as it will always benefit your game in the long run.

“They have new ways of playing and bring a fresh approach to the team.

“It-s been good as a lot of the more senior and experienced players have also given me a lot of help.

“I appreciate it a lot as it has helped me improve as a player. “
