Former Sky Blue seals Matildas progression

Caitlin Foord, serial Sydney FC winner, has helped seal the Matildas progression into the Quarter Finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Sydney last night.

A 2-0 victory over Denmark at Stadium Australia has manoeuvred the Australians into a do or die clash with either France or Morocco which will happen next Saturday in Brisbane.

Tony Gustavsson’s side went ahead in the first half after a well taken goal from Caitlin Foord which set the stadium alight. The former Sky Blues player now applies her trade in England with Arsenal and has been instrumental in the tournament so far for the Matildas.

Current Sydney FC player Cortnee Vine has also been heavily involved and came on as a second half substitute alongside Sam Kerr and looked to travel forward at every opportunity, getting seven touches in a short space of time.

Hayley Raso grabbed the second for the Aussies and they looked after the conclusion of the game, recording another famous victory in the World Cup. They will be looking to make more history as they aim to head to the Semi Finals for the very first time in their history.

Congratulations to all involved with the Matildas on a fantastic tournament so far! Long may it continue.
