Faty Pleased With First Sky Blues Strike

After opening his Hyundai A-League account against the Phoenix on Sunday, Sydney FC defender Jacques Faty expressed his delight at his first strike for the Sky Blues as they narrowed the gap at the top to one point with their win.

Faty opened the scoring with a sweet volley in the ninth minute and he ranked the strike as one of his most important while also divulging the meaning behind his goal celebration that saw him kiss the Beechwood Homes sleeve sponsor logo.

“It’s an honour to score my first goal for Sydney FC especially after three weeks off through injury,” he said.

“Out of all the goals I’ve scored this one is very important. Firstly it was against Wellington who are first placed and I was out for three weeks so it was my first game since my injury which is why it’s important for me.

“I hope now I will score more and more with Sydney FC. The most important thing though is the clean sheet because as a defender the first priority is not to concede goals.

“[The goal celebration] was a special dedication to the sponsor Beechwood,” he continued.

“They are very nice with us and we just wanted to tell them thank you and I hope they will continue to support us for the next year.”

With one big game out of the way, Faty said the Sky Blues couldn’t rest as they face another three tough matches against teams in the top six, however he stated that if the Sky Blues play like they did on Sunday then they should have no difficulty with Adelaide United at Allianz Stadium on Saturday (kick off 7:30pm).

“It was very nice to win against the first place team and we deserved to win yesterday because we played very good,” he said.

“For me it was one of the best games we’ve played away, even better than Mariners, so the team played good.

“I’m very happy for Jurman too because it’s the first time we’ve played together in the central defence the partnership was great.

“We have a big game next week and the week after and after, the next four games are very important for us,” he continued.

“Adelaide will be a very strong game, very tough. It will be the last game in Allianz and that is why it’s very important for us to win this game and be good.

“I know Adelaide is a good team but I think we are good too and there is the possibility to win this game if we play like we did on Sunday.”
