Everton announce strong squad for FC showdown

Everton Football Club will bring a squad brimming with Goodison Park favourites for the Everton Down Under 2010 tour next month.

Everton Football Club will bring a squad brimming with Goodison Park favourites for the Everton Down Under 2010 tour next month.

The touring party includes a full strength Everton squad other than players participating in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The only World Cup exception is Australia-s Tim Cahill who has confirmed that he will play in the Sydney and Melbourne matches subject to his commitments for the Socceroos.

The side will be led by captain and former England player, Phil Neville, with Everton-s longstanding manager, David Moyes, and goalkeeping coach (and former England international), Chris Woods, part of the coaching and support team.

The squad not only includes Cahill, who announced a new four year deal with Everton just prior to his departure for South Africa, but also Russian winger Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, and Frenchman Louis Saha.

The exciting Belgian international midfielder, Marouane Fellaini, who spent most of the last season out with a serious ankle injury, is also named in the touring party and is expected to make his much-awaited comeback in Australia.

“I am totally focussed on Australia and our World Cup journey,” said Cahill from South Africa.

“But it-s a dream for me that my club, Everton, is visiting my country as part of the pre-season preparations for the next (English) Premier League season.

“It-s massive. It-s non-stop football and it-s great for fans, and great for the A-League too.”

Everton will meet Australia-s A-League champions, Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium on 10 July, new comers Melbourne Heart at Etihad Stadium on 14 July and Brisbane Roar on 17 July at Suncorp Stadium.

They will arrive in Australia in early July for a two week stay, and will also attend charity dinners in Sydney and Melbourne.

Tickets to the matches can be purchased from Ticketek (www.ticketek.com.au) for the Sydney and Brisbane games, and from Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com.au) for the Melbourne game. Discounts are available for groups of ten or more people.
