Elise Kellond-Knight selected in All-star team

Westfield Matildas defender Elise Kellond-Knight has been selected in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 All-star team.

Westfield Matildas defender Elise Kellond-Knight has been selected in the FIFA Women-s World Cup 2011 All-star team. The 20-year-old defender played every minute of the Westfield Matildas World Cup campaign and was one of the 21 players named in the the All-star team selected at the end of the tournament.

Kellond-Knight is the only Australian player selected in the All-Star team that included adidas Golden Ball winner, Homare Sawa, adidas Silver Ball winner, Abby Wambach and adidas Bronze Ball winner Hope Solo.

Kellond-Knight’s selection in the All-star team capped off a year of outstanding performance. She was instrumental in Westfield Matildas 2010 AFC Women-s Asian Cup triumph and helped Brisbane Roar to the Westfield W-League Championship this season.

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 All-star team:

Goalkeepers: Ayumi Kaihori (JPN) and Hope Solo (USA). Defenders: Alex Scott (ENG), Laura Georges (FRA), Erika (BRA), Saskia Bartusiak (GER), Sonia Bompastor (FRA) and Elise Kellond-Knight (AUS). Defensive midfield: Shannon Boxx (USA), Homare Sawa (JPN), Caroline Seger (SWE) and Jill Scott (ENG). Attacking midfield: Kerstin Garefrekes (GER), Shinobu Ohno (JPN), Louisa Necib (FRA), Anonman (EQG), Aya Miyama (JPN) and Lauren Cheney (USA). Forwards: Lotta Schelin (SWE), Marta (BRA) and Abby Wambach (USA).
