Dream run ends for Hall of Famer Stajcic

Sydney FC Hall of Famer Alen Stajcic’s dream run in the FIFA Women’s World Cup has come to an end at the hands of Norway in Group A after losing 6-0.

Having beaten co-hosts New Zealand in the 2nd match of the group, Stajcic and the Philippines faced an unlikely escape out of the group having not been given a chance of getting a point at the start of the tournament.

As he did with his time at Sydney FC Women’s, Stajcic proved many doubters wrong and gave the Philippines side hope that they could progress to the Round of 16.

Unfortunately, Norway showed their strength and went out to an early lead and never looked back, leading 3-0 at the break before doubling their goal tally in the second half with the match finishing 6-0.

For the Philippines, their moment came against New Zealand, scoring their first goal in World Cup history and their first subsequent win alongside, sending their country crazy back home in Manila.

Congratulations to Alen Stajcic and all involved with the Philippines Women’s National Team on a fantastic debut FIFA Women’s World Cup.
