On matchday two of the AFC Champions League 2016 group stage, few could fathom the Sky Blues would be where they currently are, topping Group H.

It was Milos Dimitrijevic’s decisive 88th minute strike that claimed the first three points of the campaign, and it’s proved the impetus for the Sky Blues to go on and remain unbeaten in the group stage with one match remaining tonight.

“I think it was a very important goal because it was the winner against them [and] a very very important three points for us,” Dimitrijevic said.

“After this three points and this game we kept going and took a few other points and now we are top of the group. I hope that we will win tonight and stay top of the group at the end.

“I remember I had a very good first touch and had the space to shoot so it was very good and important goal. It felt very good and I hope it will be the same tonight.

“[It was a] very good performance [that night against Guangzhou] because they are the Asian Champions.”

While already through to the AFC Champions League round of 16, top spot in the group is still on the line and Dimitrijevic stressed the importance of winning tonight’s encounter against Guangzhou Evergrande in China.

“We come here but we are already through the group,” Dimitrijevic said.

“It was an important three points against Pohang in Korea and also in Sydney. I think we did very well but now we have to be focussed and keep going.

“We know it will be a tough game because they have a very good team and for us we have to win this game to be top of the group so it’s very important game for us and we will be ready.”

Sydney FC take on Guangzhou Evergrande at Tianhe Stadium tonight (kick off 8:30pm AEST). Catch the match live on Fox Sports 3 or follow @SydneyFC on Twitter for match updates.
