Sydney FC captain Terry McFlynn has revealed some strong words of advice boosted young striker Dimi Petratos into putting on the kind of show he did against Brisbane Roar last Sunday.
The Young Socceroo scored the crucial opening goal and McFlynn is backing Dimi to go far.
“Dimi-s a great prospect for the future. He came in last season on the back of a couple of injuries and probably towards the back of the season he was one of our best players.”
“He-s been a little bit frustrated this year and a few of us have had a talk with him.
“He knew he had to be patient, as all young players do, and just believe in themselves and the people around him and they-ll get their chance.
“He got his chance last week and like we all said to him, “once you get your chance it-s yours to lose”.
“He put his hand up last week, scored and turned in a great performance, so competition for places is really healthy.”
That competition and the new signings are something that McFlynn believes has created a different atmosphere around the club.
“I think it-s a right mix of players, a right blend.
“Obviously having a long pre-season to gel together really helped and aided with the preparations.”
“We-ve spent a lot of time together as a group, we got to know each other on and off the park.
“We-ve had a lot of players come from overseas, we-ve had a lot of players move interstate to join the club so it was like a clean slate really, a fresh canvas if you like sand we-re putting our own mark on it.”
