Fresh from scoring his first ever Hyundai A-League goal, SydneyFC youngster Marco Tilio is eyeing a similar opportunity in Friday night’s #SydneyDerby at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

The young Sky Blue said his goal was the result of countless hours of hard work in training, as he revelled in the fact he could celebrate with close friend, and fellow goalscorer, Harry Van der Saag at Central Coast Stadium.

“It was incredible [to score]. I’m very happy,” Tilio said.

“A lot of hard work has been put into this, to get my Hyundai A-League debut, and I got my opportunity today.

“Everything comes so quick in football you don’t know what’s going to happen. The opportunity was given to me after all the hard work put in with the boys at training and I think I took that opportunity.

“Harry and I are good mates,” he continued.

“We work hard for the team and for both of us to score is something we’d have dreamed of as kids, doing it together.

“I’ll put my head down, work hard at training this week and see what happens. Hopefully I get an opportunity again [in the #SydneyDerby].”

Tilio said he was thrilled to be handed his debut by Head Coach Steve Corica after spending a number of years in Sydney FC’s Academy set up, while his strike was made all the more special with his family and friends traveling up to watch the clash.

“This is my fifth year at Sydney FC, I’ve been in the Academy for the last three years,” he said.

“Last year I was in the first team on and off and this year I’m in the first team full time.

“I can’t explain it, it’s an unreal feeling, it just came to me and I was able to put it in the bottom corner.

“It was really exciting to celebrate with Harry one of my good mates. My family came up as well, and to score the goal in front of them after everything they’ve done for me, I’m ecstatic.

“Steve said go in there, do what you’ve got to do, get back and work hard and when you get the chance dribble and do what you do best,” he continued.

“I’m very happy he gave me the faith to go on the field.”
