Sydney FC’s Foxtel National Youth League squad contested another five goal encounter, suffering their second 3-2 defeat this time at the hands of Brisbane Roar at Dunmore Park, Auchenflower on Sunday.

The Sky Blues got off to a poor start when after only 3 minutes on the clock an errant pass by left back George Timotheou was punished by Roar midfielder Devante Clut who lobbed a stranded Anthony Bouzanis from 25 metres to give the Roar a 1-0 lead.

Sydney hit back on the 12 minute mark when a wicked corner kick delivered by Anthony Tomelic found the head of Themba Muata-Marlow to nod in the equaliser for 1-1.

With both teams content to hold the ball, neither threatened as they enojyed possession as the two sides went in at the break with the scores locked at 1-1.

The Young Sky Blues would rue several missed chances in the second period as Bai Antoniou and James Andrew both saw shots slide across the face of the Roar goal, only needing a finishing touch, while Daniel Araujo broke clear midway through the half only to see his one on one effort tipped over the bar by the Brisbane custodian.

Sydney FC then conceded two goals in quick succession as the Roar capitalised in the 70th and 73rd minutes through Samual Sibatuara and Abrahim Yango respectively.

The Sky Blues were able to pull one back in the 86th minute when Charles Lokolingoy slotted home from close range to make the score line 3-2 and give the Sky Blues a glimmer of hope, however, the Roar held firm and played out the final minutes to snatch the three points.

The Sky Blues remain fifth on the ladder with a game in hand and face a tough test against the high flying Foxtel National Youth League competition leaders Perth Glory at Lambert Park this Saturday, kick off at 11.00am.

BRISBANE ROAR 3 (Clut 3’; Sibatuara 70’; Yango 73’) defeated SYDNEY FC 2 (Muata-Marlow 12’; Lokolingoy 86’).
