Deborah-Anne de la Harpe ready to step up

Deborah-Anne de la Harpe is looking forward to the challenge of filling the sizeable gap in Sydney FC’s defence tomorrow with skipper Nat Tobin suspended.

The 22–year-old is expected to slot into the centre-back role vacated by Tobin following her red card against the Wanderers last weekend.

And she said: “It’s obviously really unfortunate that we are missing our captain Nat for this weekend’s game.

“But I feel encouraged that Ante trusts me to do a good job there against Brisbane.

“I’ve always been quite a versatile player throughout my career in multiple positions and enjoy slotting into that centre-back role when needed.”

The Caringbah raised star applied her trade with Perth Glory last season but now she is back home, her football is beginning to flourish with her friends and family around.

“I’ve been absolutely loving life at Sydney FC,’’ de la Harpe said.

“It’s been very easy to settle in and getting to play alongside some of my best friends has been awesome.

“It is very clear to see why this is the best and most successful club in Australia. Every player’s work ethic is amazing and Ante pushes everyone to be their best because he believes in what they can do.

“Creating such a winning and competitive environment lifts you and makes you want to work harder and be the best you can be.

History will be created when Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar run out for the first Liberty A-League Women’s match at the rebuilt venue, but for Deborah-Anne, this won’t be her first visit to Moore Park.

“I’ve watched plenty of matches here as a kid and it feels like it’s come full circle to be playing here this weekend, plus to have my family in the crowd, as always, it will be even more special” she said.

“We are aware of the threat that Brisbane pose as they have some speed up front. However, we are prepared for this game as our squad continues to get better each week.”

Catch Deborah-Anne de la Harpe when Sydney FC host Brisbane Roar this Saturday at Allianz Stadium in the first Liberty A-League Women’s match at the new venue.
