Corica’s Adelaide Selection Dilemmas

Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica has revealed the selection dilemmas facing him ahead of Sunday night’s clash away against Adelaide United.

With Kosta Barbarouses returning after the birth of his baby daughter, and Rhyan Grant suspended after an accumulation of yellow card, there’s two crucial decisions weighing on Corica’s mind ahead of his side’s encounter against an in-form Reds side at Coopers Stadium.

“It comes down to a lot of the experienced players,” Corica said of his side’s chances in Adelaide.

“We’re playing very well at the moment, some good football.

“We’ll have Kosta back for this game, he’s flying down tomorrow. It’ll be great to have him back and if everyone pulls up well we’ll make a decision after training [on who plays up front].

“Kosta has had a busy couple of days. He flew to Perth and then got an early flight back, 6am flight, for the birth of his daughter and didn’t make it there in time. He’ll spend a bit of time there now and then fly down and get ready for Sunday.

“We’ve quite a few options there [at right back],” Corica continued.

“[Harry] Van der Saag has played there, and we could drop back [Paulo] Retre or bring up Patrick Flottmann who’s also played there in the past but nothing has been decided yet.”

Adelaide have won their last five games in a row and sit second on the ladder, and Corica is relishing the challenge the South Australian side pose.

“I’m looking forward to playing Adelaide,” Corica said.

“They’re on a roll at the moment, they’ve won five in a row and climbed the table and are sitting second now so looking forward to the challenge.

“It’s going to be tough, they’ve got a lot of good young boys coming through.

“There were a lot of positives from Wednesday night,” he continued.

“I think we dominated most of that game and created a lot of chances. If It wasn’t for Reddy we would have won that game.

“A point away from home isn’t bad but we obviously we want to pick up three.”
